Make Telephone Calls To Check On Homebound Neighbors

Volunteer to engage in lively one-on-one conversations through weekly telephone calls with an aging homebound adult. This provides connection and reassurance for older adults who may be experiencing isolation or who are seeking a “phone friend” to share stories and discuss topics of mutual interest. To be successful as a Social Link Caller you will need to have good interpersonal communication skills, be attuned to issues related to aging, have an upbeat and friendly manner, and be interested in developing a social connection with someone new to you.   

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Social Link Caller

TIME COMMITMENT: Weekly commitment for a minimum of 3 months  

EXPECTATIONS:   

  • Be interested in learning about others from different cultural backgrounds 
  • Avoid discussing topics that might be polarizing or create conflict 
  • Embrace the experiences and stories shared 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete Volunteer Orientation
  • Personal cell or landline phone
  • Good communication skills
